In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Sian

Flat hair can leave you feeling lacklustre. But it’s usually the result of a poor haircut. In Sian’s case the basic A-Line haircut made the whole effect heavy and flat. We wanted to inject life and movement into the hair and for this we needed proper shaping and layers followed by some cleverly placed colour to give a little intrigue and tonal depth to the whole effect.

Follow what we did...

1. Cut - The haircut is the most important part of your hairstyle and should do most of the work. If it’s not cut well you will work harder at styling and feel less confident.

Sian’s haircut was typical A-Line with a few random shorter pieces causing an overhang at the front when the hair moved around. Using our signature Diamond Dry Cut™ method, I took a graduated outline and sculpted face-framing layers through to the back. This gave a great shape even without blowdrying. We then moved onto colour.

2. Colour – Jodie our Colour Director is one of London’s handful of elite Colour Masters. Using a combination of foils and balayage she created a warm yet bright textured effect, giving dimension and contrast to the colour. This play on tonal juxtaposition, also helps enhance a sense of movement in the hair.

3. Condition – Key products for Sian’s hair were a)  LifeSaver Prewash. This a not an oil-based treatment and you cannot overuse LifeSaver®. It feeds, hydrates and strengthens without weighing hair down and gives vibrancy to all hair types.

And b) Cashmere Protein UV Protective Shampoo and Conditioner nourishes the hair and protects the colour. In fact, nothing we’ve come across keeps colour better than this trio of hero products.

Sian’s finished hairstyle all blends seamlessly and is simple for her to style at home in many different looks.

I honestly feel like Michael and Jodie are magicians because they worked magic on my hair! Before, I found it difficult to even brush my hair; it constantly had breakage, and overall felt like my hair was just dead. Now it feels healthy, manageable and full of life. People have commented that it looks so much healthier and I’ve more confidence than before. “ - Sian

Prep

For Sian’s hair we used LifeSaver Prewash Treatment to rehydrate, then Cashmere Protein UV Protective Shampoo and Conditioner.

Styling
A little Thicker Quicker blowdry spray and Volumising Mousse helped give body and control. We used the Large Round Brush to give body and style. Then finally a little Ten Second Transformation to feed and smooth the ends of the hair giving a little shine and texture too.

I love long hair. But sometimes you can have too much of a good thing, and if it’s not cut properly it can drown the wearer and make shampoo-days a dreaded event. Tara had gorgeous hair but the haircut had no shape. Just the usual...

I don’t normally start by showing the back. But the breakage and damage was so bad that the entire top portion at the back had snapped off. Kazz had been paying a lot for hair colouring and for regular Olaplex treatments over the years. Yet her extremely damaged hair quality was something I regularly see. Unnecessarily weak thin broken hair, and dull colour.

How many Bobs have you got?

These quick clunky haircuts are becoming prolific as hairdressers become less and less able to layer hair properly. Emily had the very common 3-step Bob. The baseline, a step four inches off the bottom, and a sort of torn irregular piece suggestive of a long
