In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Mollie

When someone wants rid of long thick soft golden red hair, my first thought is, why - when it’s so gorgeous? But more isn’t necessarily better, and change is a necessary part of getting us excited again, and especially after three dreary lockdowns, it’s also symbolic of emergence into a world that’s fresh and new, hopefully. There was also something of the librarian slipping into Mollie’s look that she wanted to ditch. And hey, hair always grows back. I loved the new look and luckily so did Mollie.

This is what we did…

1. Cut

The haircut is the most important part of your hairstyle and should do most of the work. If it’s not cut well you will work harder and feel less confident. Mollie’s hair has a very slight wave which makes the hair pliable and more versatile. The Diamond Dry Cut™ is my signature technique and a natural method of sculpting. We cut hair dry to see the shape evolve in much the same way as Michelangelo would approach a marble bust. A one-length haircut would have been too heavy and clunky. So we kept the outline strong, but long layers were carefully sculpted into the back to give lift and movement, then the tips were softened with a steep point-cut up to two inches into the hair.

This changed the fall and texture of the hair helping it to bend more easily. Mollie’s hair can now move fluidly and fall effortlessly back into place.

2. Condition

We gave Mollie a LifeSaver Prewash Treatment. Nothing injects moisture, elasticity and shine quite like this. Mollie will now continue at home with this unique system of Healthcare for Hair®. Read… The Facts of LifeSaver®

3. Styling

With a great cut and better condition you get to choose from lots of style options. Here we took Mollie through a quick loose tonging.

“Wow 9 inches off and I don’t miss it at all! I have the bug now... I already want to go shorter next time! My hair is feeling SO GOOD and I’m so happy I had the chop!” - Mollie

New hair, who dis 💇🏼‍♀️ , thank you @mvanclarke for making me feel more like myself than I have in ages - nearly a foot shorter and feeling 15lbs lighter! what do you guys think of the chop?!

For Mollie’s hair we used LifeSaver Prewash Treatment to rehydrate, then Moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner. A little Thicker Quicker blowdry spray and Volumising Mousse helped give body and control. We finger dried then used large 32mm barrel tongs to give a light wave, followed by a little Ten Second Transformation to feed and smooth the hair, giving shine and texture too.

I love long hair. But sometimes you can have too much of a good thing, and if it’s not cut properly it can drown the wearer and make shampoo-days a dreaded event. Tara had gorgeous hair but the haircut had no shape. Just the usual...

I don’t normally start by showing the back. But the breakage and damage was so bad that the entire top portion at the back had snapped off. Kazz had been paying a lot for hair colouring and for regular Olaplex treatments over the years. Yet her extremely damaged hair quality was something I regularly see. Unnecessarily weak thin broken hair, and dull colour.

How many Bobs have you got?

These quick clunky haircuts are becoming prolific as hairdressers become less and less able to layer hair properly. Emily had the very common 3-step Bob. The baseline, a step four inches off the bottom, and a sort of torn irregular piece suggestive of a long
