How do you persuade a child to have their haircut? “Just a little off…., you can keep the front long…., it won’t take long…” I asked over a period of months. “No, no, no.” Came the answers from Jack.
I needed more persuasive arguments. “What if James has a go at cutting your hair and we’ll film it and make you a Tik-Tok star!”
Such is the power of social media that it flicked a switch in Jack. Of course, I then had to backtrack about being a star. “We’ll do a little video and have some fun”, I said.
What started as our relaxed approach to longer hair in lockdown ended up being a battle getting them to cut their hair at all. They competed in class for the longest fringe. I wouldn’t mind but they put no effort into looking after their hair in the morning, so set ‘grunge-revival’ fashions at school. Not good.

Of course, I did help James rather a lot with his first haircut, and he really enjoyed chopping hair off. Jack’s hair is very wavy around the front and more so on one side. LifeSaver UV combed onto damp hair in the morning sorts that out for the day, turning fluffy curls into soft beachy waves.
