In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Amy

Long silky blonde hair. What’s not to like?
Were we to look at hair in isolation, Amy could happily have left it as it was. But the beauty of hair is very much how it frames the face, how it moves, how it feels and how it makes us feel. For Amy it was feeling flat, heavy, and becoming difficult to inject any life into the style. It was time for something more uplifting.

Amy’s basic long A-Line bob made the hair hang heavy around her face. Without some shaping the longer hair became like a blanket around the shoulders. It tangled and snagged when brushed so Amy spent most of the time with her hair scraped back in a ponytail.

1. The Haircut

To lift and shape Amy's hair, I graduated the front taking six inches off and properly layered through precisely to the back where we left the length intact. The Diamond Dry Cut™ is my natural method of sculpting. We cut hair dry to see the shape evolve in much the same way as Michaelangelo would approach a marble bust.

Hair is a sensual material. It exudes vibrancy and a sexual energy that is all part of our animal attraction. But it has to be able to move or at least suggest the promise of this latent energy.

Bounce, swing, vitality, vibrancy, strength, suppleness, flexibility, spring, elasticity, resonance. These are the words we associate with youthful, healthy, sexy, hair and particularly longer hair that can swing far and wide. But the two key things that will mostly kill this energy are a long A-Line outline shape and poor condition. And the A-Line contributes to this poor condition by keeping weaker hair around the front far too long.

2. The Colour

Jodie our Senior Colourist crafted an exquisite highlight combination to amplify the textural contrast in the colour and enhance the sense of movement in the hair.

Before shampooing and styling Amy's hair already has more life and interest.

“So happy to have life back in my hair - Amy

Prep

For Amy's hair we used our best-selling LifeSaver Pre-wash Treatment to rehydrate, then Cashmere Protein UV Protective Shampoo and Conditioner

Styling

A little Thicker Quicker blowdry spray and Volumising Mousse helped give body and control. We used the Large Round Brush to style. Then finally a little Ten Second Transformation to feed and smooth the hair giving a little shine and texture too.

I love long hair. But sometimes you can have too much of a good thing, and if it’s not cut properly it can drown the wearer and make shampoo-days a dreaded event. Tara had gorgeous hair but the haircut had no shape. Just the usual...

I don’t normally start by showing the back. But the breakage and damage was so bad that the entire top portion at the back had snapped off. Kazz had been paying a lot for hair colouring and for regular Olaplex treatments over the years. Yet her extremely damaged hair quality was something I regularly see. Unnecessarily weak thin broken hair, and dull colour.

How many Bobs have you got?

These quick clunky haircuts are becoming prolific as hairdressers become less and less able to layer hair properly. Emily had the very common 3-step Bob. The baseline, a step four inches off the bottom, and a sort of torn irregular piece suggestive of a long
